Other than that I’m very pleased with the machine and look forward to using it for my family who loves home made pasta.
Properly Washing this machine takes about as long as it takes to make the pasta. I want it to be like new so yeah it takes time to wash.
-It's fast. It takes about 3 minutes to start extruding dough and is done in roughly 10 minutes after that.
-Because it's fast, it doesn't require a lot of planning, like with traditional pasta making where you need to make the dough and knead it, let it rest for half an hour, then roll it out. It takes about half the time of letting a traditional dough rest.
-The extruding discs give you a lot of options for shapes.
-It's easy to use, turn on and choose egg dough or not, measure dry ingredients and add, put on lid, measure wet ingredients, press start and slowly drizzle in wet ingredients. That's all the active effort required.
-Having included recipes for things like ramen or soba noodles, or if you want to add spinach to the dough, or if you want gluten free noodles, all expand the use of the device and give it a broader appeal.
-The device is relatively easy to clean, after making pasta there are only 5 or so components to clean, which isn't too bad.
The Bad:
-on the bottom, there is a drawer to store the extruder discs. It holds 5 discs, and 1 can be held in the actually spot it extrudes on the machine. However, the machine came with 8 discs, and the penne & lasagna discs are slightly deeped than the other discs included. Not the end of the world, but seems like an oversight to make a drawer to keep everything together, but not include a spot for 1/4 of the included discs.
-Most of my biggest complaints are around the scale on this model. The scale only measures the dry ingredients, and only in cups (volumetric), while the provided recipes are all in ounces or grams (mass). So while it says it's measuring in cups, there is no way the scale is actually doing that. But compared to my home scale, 250g = 8oz = 1.00 cup (on this machine)
-The scale takes the weight of the dry ingredients and tells you how many mL of wet ingredients to add. Mixing imperial (the cups for dry) and metric (mL for wet) seems strange. But also, following the recipe in the book for egg pasta, they all said 250g dry, to 95mL wet, but the machine, when containing 250g dry, suggested adding 100mL wet. So it is inconsistent with the actual recipes.
-The scale is virtually useless. All the recipes in the provided book are in oz or g, but the scale only measures dry ingredients in cups, which is a volumetric measure, not a measure of weight.
-First time I used it, I assumed the weight for liquids would use the scale as well. it doesn't, it just tells you how much to measure out separately, then you have to start the process and slowly add the liquid. If you add the liquid up front, most of it just leaks out the front of the machine while it's running and the dough comes out dry.
Final thoughts:
So far after having made 2 batches, 1 success & 1 failure (my own fault), I like the device overall. My biggest peeve with it is the scale, I think I will just use my own scale to measure the ingredients in the future because I would like to use ounces or grams like the provided recipes. So overall, my recommendation is this is a decent device if you're busy and love fresh noodles that are quick and easy and mostly hands off, but I'd suggest getting the lower model that doesn't have the scale, since that feature doesn't add anything of value to this.
Now, with this new pasta maker it has been wonderful. I find that a simple brown rice flour, tapioca flour and egg recipe makes the best product. Absolutely the best GF pasta I have eaten.
I don’t know about regular pasta however I would assume that it would be great as well.
The machine has many parts that need cleaning after making the pasta however they all clean up rather easily. It just that there are so many parts!
It’s still well worth it. If you love fresh pasta then this is the machine to buy. For us, it will most likely pay for itself in about a year because fresh GF pasta is so expensive to buy. I’m sure the machine will last much longer than a year so it is a very good purchase.
As you can tell, I definitely recommend this pasta maker.
